10. Adequate information is given to you and after care advice plus checks are
given.
11. There is 24hr access to your piercer in case of bleeding.
12. Your piercer does not carry out too many piercings on your body at one given
time.
13. Does not attempt to carry out piercings which are medically irresponsible. Why do we use
disposable needles rather than guns?
Jewellery used
with ear piercing guns is poorly designed for piercing. The ends are rounded,
not sharp, thus rather than providing a clean, surgical cut they are forced
through the tissue, causing extensive trauma. This also slows down the healing
and increases the chance of inflammation and/or infection. Piercing guns cannot
be sterilised as they are made of plastic and would melt in a proper sterilisation
unit. This tool is most unsuitable when used in cartilage or navel piercing
as the jewellery cannot accommodate swelling during the healing period.
Which body parts
do we pierce?
As a general rule,
we only pierce body parts from the navel up. Areas below the belt fall into
a 'high risk' category in terms of infection and various other complications.
At Meticulous
we pierce eyebrows, ears (cartilage and tragus), noses, lips, nipples and navels.
Sterilisation
In addition to
being professionally competent, we provide a service which is safe and hygienic.
The correct sterilisation of any instrument or object used for body piercing
is essential. Only two methods are suitable, either dry heat sterilisation or
autoclave sterilisation. We only use autoclave sterilisation as it is the most
efficient and effective method. We guarantee that this procedure is carried
out on all equipment after each treatment. We also only use the highest quality
surgical stainless steel jewellery for our piercings. We choose not to pierce
with gold as it can cause adverse reactions in the body whilst the pierce is
healing, however when the piercing is completely healed we are happy to change
the original jewellery over to gold, if desired.
Changing jewellery
The usual healing
time for a piercing is six to eight weeks, although some will take a few weeks
less and some a few weeks more. It is generally assumed that after this period
the jewellery can be removed, replaced or re-inserted on a day to day or week
to week basis without any problems. However, although the piercing may appear
healed after six to eight weeks, much more time is required for the pierced
skin to toughen up and establish itself permanently in your body. Jewellery
should therefore be left in the piercing at all times for at least the first
six months, even longer if possible. How piercing is cared for will determine
the length of time for healing.
